Floury Fingers offers a range of courses that can either support curriculum teaching or operate as an after school club.
Courses are designed to take the pupils through different food preparation techniques and explore different food groups.  A typical session may comprise of pupils learning different chopping techniques and using these to prepare vegetables for a pasta sauce.
I use specially adapted techniques which means that you will need little or no cooking equipment in school.  I will provide all the resources and ingredients to make sure your pupils are able to enjoy real food as part of the curriculum.

'The work you did with our children and staff was excellent.  The children really enjoyed the sessions and all the staff learnt so much working alongside you.  Thanks.'
'The skills based approach to teaching, the excellent organisation and the meeting before hand to ensure the children's needs were being met were all well suited to our school curriculum.  Thank you.'

Courses
Taste Tots is for foundation children and an ideal way of getting parents involved in the school.  Courses generally run for between 6 and 10 weeks for an hour a week.  It will introduce children to tastes, textures and techniques and allow them to explore food in a safe, non-stove environment.

Taste Buddies is for key stage 1 and 2.  This 10 week course runs for 2 hours a week.  One hour is spent with the adults looking at nutritional information that they need to know for their child's development.  This is a discussion based session that is non-threatening and encourages the parents to share their thoughts and experiences.  The second hour the adult is joined by their child and they cook something together using ingredients from that week-s topic.

Taste Club is an after schools club that can be adapted to any age.  Generally sessions run 45 minutes to an hour on a weekly basis through term time.  Many schools run these in six week blocks with pupils committing to the full course at the start.

Other events
Community, Inspire Days, Focus Weeks or Celebration Events

Many schools ask me to deliver sessions as part of special events or to encourage parental involvement.  Such events include a whole school picnic with each child making a healthy lunch box treat.  At the end of the day all the school comes together with parents to enjoy the food and sunshine.
Floury Fingers has also delivered a Generations Tea Party. For this children and their parents / carers prepared afternoon tea for grandparents.  They made sandwiches and scones.  Their Grandparents then joined them to enjoy some scrummy food and a nice time with their family
All these sessions are very rewarding for parents, carers and pupils alike.  The learning curve for most pupils is so steep that amazing results can be seen in a short period of time.
We also specialise in larger events where, over the course of a week, all the pupils get a chance to make some amazing creations. Such events include Pizza Weeks, Indian Feast, Mexican Madness - to name just a few. Events can also be tailored to suit a specific school’s need or particular focus.
In the past we have even spent a week sculpting with bread!
And as if that wasn’t enough…we can also help you apply for funding to help pay for the events!
If you would be interested in having such activities at your school please contact me at zoe@flouryfingers.co.uk or on 07891355538

Training
For Primary schools
Floury Fingers believes that all children deserve the opportunity to cook, learn about nutrition and acquire vital life skills.  Exploring food and cooking is not just about making buns: children should have the chance to touch, feel and smell different foods.  Further, to experience different ingredients and to learn how they can control the final flavour of a dish to produce food they will enjoy eating.
Floury Fingers has extensive experience of cooking in school and community settings with children of all ages.  Specially adapted techniques allow pupils to take part in cookery sessions using basic and minimal equipment, meaning that enthusing children about food is possible and practical even in the classroom.
